Noki - Japanese Lantern Lamp

A Japanese lantern for a shelf or a bedside table.

Noki is named for the eaves of a temple roof — the deep overhang that lifts at the corners. That roof is why the light behaves the way it does: it caps the lamp completely, so nothing glares up at you and the glow leaves through the four panels instead.

Each of the four panels carries a sakura branch in raised relief, and no two are the same — the branches are cut differently on every side, so the lamp changes as you walk around it. Lit from inside they read as dark silhouettes against warm light, the way a real branch looks against a paper screen.

Printed in PLA with a matte finish. Frame, roof, base and panels are printed separately and assembled by hand.

A dimmer on the cable takes it from a full glow down to a low ember, and switches it off — no need to reach for the plug.

Powered by USB with a wall plug included, so it runs from any socket, a laptop, a power bank or a bedside USB point.

Choosing a colour

Beige is a soft off-white — it glows brightest and shows the branch silhouettes most clearly. Wood is a warmer sand tone closer to aged paper and cane, and looks more like a real lantern when it's switched off.
