Noki - Japanese Lantern Lamp

A Japanese lantern for a shelf or a bedside table.

Noki is named for the eaves of a temple roof — the deep overhang that lifts at the corners. That roof is why the light behaves the way it does: it caps the lamp completely, so nothing glares up at you and the glow leaves through the four panels instead.

Choose your panel design

The lamp is the same in every version — roof, frame and base do not change. What changes is what is cut into the four panels, and how the light comes through them.

• Sakura — a cherry branch in raised relief, and no two panels are the same. The branches are cut differently on every side, so the lamp changes as you walk around it. Lit from inside they read as dark silhouettes against warm light, the way a real branch looks against a paper screen.
• Shoji — the plain paper-screen grid. Even panes, nothing to read, just a soft rectangle of light. The quietest of the three, and the easiest to live with in a room that already has a lot going on.
• Kumiko — interlocking squares linked corner to corner around an open centre. More architectural than the other two, and the design that throws the most defined shadow onto the wall behind it.

Printed in PLA with a matte finish. Frame, roof, base and panels are printed separately and assembled by hand.

A dimmer on the cable takes it from a full glow down to a low ember, and switches it off — no need to reach for the plug.

Powered by USB with a wall plug included, so it runs from any socket, a laptop, a power bank or a bedside USB point.

Choosing a colour

Beige is a soft off-white — it glows brightest and shows the panel design most clearly. Wood is a warmer sand tone closer to aged paper and cane, and looks more like a real lantern when it's switched off.
